Methods: High-temperature solid-state synthesis and crystal growth; soft-chemistry routes (e.g., low-temperature ion exchange, ion extraction and ion substitution); X-ray diffraction; immittance spectroscopy; thermal and chemical analyzes.

Problems:general principles of inorganic crystal chemistry with special attention to morphotropic series and principles governing cation mobility; search for and studies of solid-state alkali ion or proton conductors, electrode materials for lithium-ion and sodium-ion batteries; morphotropic phenomena in ferroelectric solid solutions.

The area of primary scientific interest is electronic and structural properties of inorganic transition-metal polynuclear complexes and supramolecular structures as well as directed synthesis of novel magneto-active materials. Magnetic studies to 4°K, single crystal anisotropy, electron spin resonance spectroscopy, optical and EXAFS spectroscopy, paramagnetic NMR studies. These techniques are generally employed to elucidate chemical, structural and bonding features of mononuclear and polynuclear compounds including spin-crossover, zero-field splitting effects and magneto-structural correlations in exchange-coupled systems.

Methods: High-level quantum-chemical modeling of the structure and physico-chemical properties of d- and f-block metals coordination compounds with polydentate organic ligands.

Problems:  theoretical aspects of the coordination compounds structure, structure-properties relationship, magnetochemistry of polynuclear coordination compounds, exchange interactions, molecular magnetism. Photochemistry of coordination compounds with photochemically active ligands. Earth-abandoned metal  coordination compounds as photosensitizes in photoelectrochemical solar cells (DSSC). Utilization of coordination compounds as molecular spacers in nanomaterials for energy storage devices (supercapasitors).

The general basic disciplines forming the background of educational program are:

 The master students are supposed to participate in joint research in collaboration with the scientists from such largest scientific centres as Institute of General and Inorganic Chemistry named by Kurnakov (RAS, Moscow), Institute of Physical Chemistry and Electrochemistry named by Frumkin (RAS, Moscow), International Tomographic Center (Novosibirsk), Institute of problems of chemical physics (Chernogolovka, Moscow). The above-mentioned centers are considered, first of all, as places for research practice and possible subsequent performance of master dissertation.
